Why is it that there is so much pressure to do something cool and fun on New Years? I was talking to my friend the other day and she told me that she was going to New York to watch the ball drop...then she asked me what I was doing.
"Uh...well, you know...I might play some games with some friends." (not actually knowing what I was going to do at all).
Silence on the other end of the phone...she had obviously won this battle hands down.
So I quickly throw in, "But I'm going to Thailand a week later, so I don't really want to over do it."
Whew! Embarrassment averted.
Another friend got married the day before New Years Eve...talk about a fantastic celebration of the New Year!
Memories from 2005:
Highlight: Going to Thailand
Lowlight: Watching people have to start their lives over after having lost everyone dear to them.
Big deal: Turned 25 on a plane taking 18 kids down to Mexico. 1/4 of a century old. (Found a grey hair).
Lame Jessica Moment: Falling face first off the houseboat in an attempt to jump off the top...bruises all across my ribcage.
Scariest Moment(s): Cardboard Norm always lurking around every corner (girl's bathroom, my car, my living room...etc.)
Geekiest Moment: Went gaming at the Dick's and actually kind of liked it (don't say anything).
Worst Moment: Going on a nine hour blind date from hell.
So, this has been a year filled with laughter, tears, great memories, and many journeys to far away places. Thanks for contributing!!! And thanks for a great New Years party to those who were there!!!

Oh, Jess! That blind date!! Wow. I mean....wow. I will never set you up with anyone. Unless he's really cool and very handsome and doesn't talk much.
Oh Jess... how can I ever thank you enough for going on that blind date from hell? The blog entry alone is invaluable for cheering me up on a gloomy day. I'm sorry that your pain and suffering provided me with so much glee, but that's probably the worst blind date story I've ever heard.
PS. I have a friend I could set you up with... tee hee!
hey at least lucifer wasn't at the new years eve party... or was he...!
I completely agree with Paula. The blind date post was some of the best reading I've done on ANY BLOG in 2005!!!
But, Jessica, isn't it sad that a writer's troubles and tribulations, make for good reading. My best received post of the whole year was this past summer when I wrote about my ex and entitled the post "I HATE INGRATES". Why do we have to suffer to have a bigger and more appreciative readership???????
Maybe Bono can answer that one; he's pretty smart.
Hey Jess,
Try being IN Thailand but sick in bed and being homesick.
Looking forward to seeing you next weekend!
Note to self: Never go on a blind date. I learned a lesson from that entry. I'm so sorry you had to go through that, though I laughed uncontrollably from "I'm shocked at how short one of the men's shorts really are..." to the end. I hope any other dates, blind or not, go better than that one. Mind you, I don't know how they couldn't...
