As I have mentioned before, I am in training for a 10km run...and even though I run about 4 times a week, I had never gone over 4-6km .... Until yesterday!!!!
As of Saturday, October 14th, 2006 I officially ran 9km without stopping!! And I think I can honestly say that I kind of enjoyed it. There were defintely points where I wanted to quit, or where I wanted to stop and eat (as I found my stomach growling uncontrollably), but overall it was quite an exhilerating experience!

While running, this thought came into my head...in the Bible, Paul uses running a race as an illustration of being a Christian (as does whoever you believe the author of Hebrews to be) 1Cor.9:24, 2Tim.4:7, and Heb.12:1. That picture came to life for me yesterday. As I ran, there were points where I found it easy and didn't really even think about the fact that I was running. I was able to look around me and enjoy the scenery. I felt good, strong, and like I could run forever (alright, maybe not forever, but at least 30minutes more). There were also points where my legs hurt, my stomach grumbled, and I was incredibly tired. I wanted to give up and give in. I didn't want to hurt and struggle anymore. It seemed impossible for me to finish. That's so true of our faith, isn't it? There are moments where everything is good and life seems easy, and we can enjoy the things around us. But there are also moments where we wonder where God is in it all, moments that we struggle and experience pain. But, take a look in Hebrews, "...and let us run with perseverance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus the pioneer and perfecter (finisher) of our faith, who for the sake of the joy that was set before him endured the cross, disregarding its shame...". Awesome, isn't it? Jesus is the reason that our faith exists, and we can run with perseverance because HE makes it possible!!!
So, that was my weekend! I actually ran 9km! I'm tired and am recuperating, but I'm so excited that I did it, and know that I'm capable when October 29th rolls around!

Way to go!
My sister is a runner, and she is seriously hooked. You better watch it, or before you know it, you'll be running marathons, too.
Don't forget to stretch! Stretch a lot!!
No kidding!!! I think I stretched for about 30 minutes after the run, but my bum still hurt a bit the next day! Seriously Paula, I don't think I have ever experienced a work out quite like this...I do think that they have marathons in Thailand...hee hee.
Good job Jess, run, run, run...
Ugh... running. Haha.. something I've never been good at, or enjoyed. The horrible burning in the lungs and the stiffness afterward never did it for me. Besides, it was always far too depressing to only be able to run half a mile (on a good day) before powering out completely. I'm glad you're enjoying it though, I'm sure it's great for you.
Take Care of yourself.
I ran once around a small field yesterday, and got winded. Now I really feel like a slacker. I think it's just because it's cold and wintery out. Not great running weather really.
But a month ago (in my more ambitious days) I ran a long distance on the beach of the atlantic ocean, while playing chariots of fire in my head. I highly recommend that as a self-motivator. Just thought I'd give you the tip. You probably listen to your iPod... but mental-chariots-of-fire is way more hardcore. It seperates the girls from the women.
wow...mental-chariots-of-fire...that's some serious multi-tasking. It really does determine your womanhood!
In your defence, I did hear that it's snowing in Alberta, and who really wants to run in the snow? I know I defintely do NOT want to. I have the luxery of lovely, green foliage, and un-snowed ground to run on. Makes a difference.
Congrats on running. I wish I were able to run long distances, but I need to have had a lot of coffee before being able to run at all!
Looks like we'll be heading for Abby on Thurs.October 26, and will hopefully be there around 5 or 6pm. that oki-doki? We can bum around Thursday night and Friday no problem; definatly don't want to interfere withyou classes.
Wow! Impressed! Stanley is such a beautiful place to run. Or bike. Or walk. :)
